Firecult – Future of a mostly finished mod.

So, I have decided that if there is any free time at the end of the summer, I’m going to start working on this Darkplaces mod again.  I’ve given serious thought to porting most of what has been done in FC to a different game, or a different engine. It just isn’t necessary though. I found that upon busting this computer and copying drives over, I’ve lost a lot of the material that went into the mod… those being a few of the models and sounds, some of the menu art, and HUD art. I’m kind of alright with this, as I believed that although the menu art looked good to the mod, it was also dated compared with the model work that was done.  I guess it’s something I’ll have to look at when I have about 30 free hours to dig into photoshop and all the files that need to be changed.  Just recently, I had a few ideas for enemy AI changes that I think might really spice up certain areas of the game.  Also, I’ve recently come across some great sounds that I did from the early 90′s – 2000 that would fit very nicely in some areas.  More on this later.  Cheers, thanks for looking.

All these people are looking for work. It makes me happy I have jobs at all. :( I have cool ideas about things to do if I should lose them … become an acupuncturist for example. You really don’t have to know what you’re doing and people pay you to stick pins in them. This one time, a panhandler in Chicago told me he made about $400 a day and it was all about presentation. I’ll admit, I had no idea that giving dirty old men tug-jobs in the park required that much professionalism.
I’ve been pretty busy lately. I hope to get back to work on DMQ: Source again soon, but don’t know how soon that will be exactly. I think we can get a little closer to a beta, and hope to have at least 3 maps finished for it.
On the website front: For anyone that still has links for the download section (models, art, maps, all that DMC / Quake stuff… they should still all work. I redid the download library with everything that’s been in the old one over the years. Still need to build a download menu on this thing for it. >.> I’ll get right on that. I still don’t know how I feel about WordPress. It’s definitely a lot different than Joomla, but don’t think it’s much better. It seemed like Joomla had a lot more control and editor on the backend than this does, but I like the social features of this. Ultimately it’s all a matter of taste. I’m pretty confident I would be able to work in this environment professionally, but Joomla has a lot of features I will probably miss.

I got bored with Joomla, thought I’d give WordPress a chance for a bit and get used to how it works.  I guess I’ll be working on this if I have any “free time”. The intended sarcasm there is that I have no free time. None. I have like 4 jobs right now, + way too many pressing projects to actually update anything. THIS SADDENS ME, and I expect you to feel my pain. Feel it!

My todo list for the site at this time:

  • Categories and pages put in properly
  • Downloads section for various projects
  • Updates about current projects (DMQ:Source and Firecult + art projects)
  • Blog re-worked and stuff I’ve written put in
  • WordPress and forums don’t really match, so I’ve scrapped the forum idea in favor of comments.
  • Redesign .css.  This theme is awesome but needs some TLC.

That is all.
